In the first part of this interview Pirate editor Toni Anzizu discussed his fetishes and his start in Pirate. In part two he talks about his favourite actresses, the weird hang ups some of them have, and finally what he thinks will happen to the porn magazine industry.

How much influence do you have over what the photographer or director does?
It depends on who they are. With Trevor Watson nothing. He’s very clear on what he wants and has a very strong sense of his own personal aesthetics. I always try to give my own ideas if they’re asked for. I also cast the girls. They send me pics and I choose the girls.

Which Pirate performers have impressed you the most?
Laura Angel! She is incredible. Everything, everything produced with her is incredible. I went to a photoshoot with her and every pose she made, every pic she made was usable. She’s a true professional. Sophie Evans also stands out as being a great professional. Both girls know how to seduce the camera. They were made for it. As for male performers, Ramon Nomar, who is really easy to work with. Also Toni Ribas and Tony Desergio.
Who would you like to work with in the future?
There’s a really hot Brazilian girl that I would like to work with named Tamiry. She’s amazing.

Is there a difference in the type of performer you choose for Pirate? I mean, besides the fetish factor, what differentiates your magazine from Private?
I try to get girls from all over the world. First of all, our clients are from all over the world, and some great talent is out there. It’s not just eastern Europe! There are famous and talented photographers that are internationally known, and I want to take advantage of that. Check out issue number 100, which I’m particularly proud of. That will give you a good idea of what I’m talking about. I try to use black girls, oriental girls. Here’s the trick, if you want to know. Use 50% new talent, and 50% talent that people already like. I don’t care if someone is considered overexposed – as long as people still want to see her I think it’s fine. They want fresh faces and the veterans they know they can count on.

Are fetish performers different from the rest?
Pirate doesn’t exactly push as many boundaries as I would like it to, but those are company policies that take time to evolve. I mean fetish isn’t just throwing on a latex uniform, there’s much more. Bondage for example. Bondage with sex at the same time is something I can’t transgress at the present time. But to get back to your question, what struck me most in all my years doing this is that most porn actors are not as open-minded as you would expect them to be. Like one time I asked Sophie Evans to piss into a champagne glass and she refused to do it. Another actor refused to put clothespins on his nipples … another guy refused to wear a cockring! They do anal, double penetrations … yet they have these hang ups! It always surprises me. The thing is they’re like all-terrain vehicles, they do everything – generally.

What’s the most extreme or perverted thing you’ve put out so far with Pirate?

What’s in store for future issues of Pirate?
What do people want to see? I know they want to see different things, so yeah, maybe one day we’ll see harder bondage photosets where there is actual sex during the bondage. Maybe we’ll see females penetrating males … depends on what I am allowed to do. As I said, it’s okay if it’s consensual and nothing is more fucked up than the wars we see on television. Also, I always, always try to avoid typical fetish scenarios.

Finally, the porn magazine industry is in decline. People have hung up their trench coats and dark sunglasses because no longer do they have to duck into sex shops to buy their porn. With easy access to porn on the internet, what is the future of older methods of viewing porn, like magazines?
Only the strongest will survive. A lot of companies have been closing down. But one great thing about Pirate and Private’s other magazines is that they are relatively small, easy to hide, and high quality. They don’t need to be plugged in either! They’re like collector’s items too. My gym instructor actually talks to me about the first issues of Pirate … The key is content, and to produce harder content because that is what the customer wants to see.
