Juan Carlos Villalobos is the immensely talented director of Private’s latest blockbuster, Jason Colt: the Mystery of the Sexy Diamonds. This epic production took a year and a half to make, and features the most visually stunning scenery ever seen in a porn movie. The ultimate thrill ride, it combines the action-packed adventures of a 007-style agent with explosive sex scenes.
Juan Carlos Villalobos’ career at Private began earlier this decade with a vignette called Elements, starring Bobbi Eden. Anybody watching his work – six vignettes and one feature so far - will notice that something special is happening. Rich tapestries of colour, dense imagery, high contrast photography, complex soundscapes - this is porno unlike any you have ever seen. The overall effect is like an ocean of sensuality and eroticism washing over you.

Everything in this world influences in everything, of course to travel from one place to another opens your mind and bring you fresh ideas, in porn and in life!
What did you do before porno?
Well … you just see my work and guess!

Your work, your vignettes and Jason Colt, look so unlike any other porno on the market. They almost look like commercials and music videos! Couldn’t you make more money doing that?
Well, I’m more focused on commercials and music videos. It’s true there’s more money, but at the same time there’s less freedom. What I’m trying to say is when you shoot an ad for a prestigious brand there’s tons of people behind you telling you what to do and how to do it !! It can be pretty annoying sometimes. On the other hand if you shoot porn, you’re the king, the emperor, no one is going to tell you how to move the camera or which kind of props you need. You’ve got absolute control of the final product. It’s a shame we can’t count on bigger budgets though!

How did you choose your actresses and actors?
That was really tough work! We were trying to get an agency in the East Cost, but it was impossible. The whole porn business is in LA, not NY. It was really hard, we had to fly the actors from

Did any of the actors particularly impress you?
All of them! I never worked with American porn actors before. All my vignettes for Private were shot in
Who are your favourite porn directors?
Tough one! I guess I should say Michael Ninn, Nick Cramer, I’m not sure if he is still in the business though. And let’s say Pierre Woodman, but not for his movies but for the way he works.

Another tough one! I’m not really into porn, but I would love to shoot a soft core movie in
How do you make a scene extra hot ?
Dude, that’s professional secret! I can’t tell you that!
What is your movie making process?
I’m really into the whole visual aspect of my movies, not only the porn ones. The cinematography of my features is crucial. I’m constantly trying to escape from the ugliness of porn. Of course, make up and wardrobe can help you, but the light is extremely important as well!
About the script, well we didn’t have too much time to work on that and I think with more time it could have been improved. I will love to have more time on the writing but budgets in this business are really tight.
At the end of every project we always colour correct all the footage to try to achieve a cinematic look. I personally think we made an excellent job on Jason Colt. Hope you guys can enjoy it.
I almost felt like I was watching a “real” movie, especially in the first opening sequences. What are you trying to do in Jason Colt?
From the beginning of the project I was constantly talking with all the crew trying to convince them, saying “we’re not shooting porn”. I told them there’s going to be people having sex in front of the camera, but that’s not porn. It’s just another scene of the film. That was the cue. We were actually playing at doing a mainstream
Do you have any funny or interesting anecdotes from the shoot?
Tons, but most of them are private! I will tell you one though. We were shooting the chase scene with the bikes and we were really close to an airport; we had guns, weapons, firecrackers, some small explosions and no permission to shoot (one of the limitations of the budget). Anyway, two hours later we had one of the biggest summer police operations around us! Pretty funny!

Yeah, as you say, I’m big fan of David Fincher. Also
What is your next project?
Currently I’m waiting for a huge Christmas ad campaign that could change the course of my career. Cross my fingers.
