X-Off, Private’s hot new director, discusses Evil Geishas Hotel, his eclectic influences, his fresh approach to making porno, and his upcoming projects.

What first attracted you to porno? What did you do before?

I’ve worked as director for some years in fiction, music videos and advertisement. The world of porno fascinated me for the possibility to reinventing a genre: porn movies have a fixed language, some very well-coded and known rules. My challenge is to make something different from the usual, but still very horny. I’m working for a revolution of language that can maintain the quality of the excitement.

How did you get involved with Private? What was the first thing you saw by them?

Private is known worldwide, among professionals, as a big enterprise that makes hardcore products of high quality. And it has by its side an amazing distribution. For this reason, for someone like me – beginner in the world of porno – Private was a guarantee. I can say more, Private was the top!

Thanks to my participation to Ficeb 2006, where Erste Klasse was nominated as best porn short, I could propose myself to the top. And now I’m here!

Of all the life forms on this planet, it is we humans who insist on having sex indoors, whereas the most usual place for all other animals is outdoors. Lecastel’s new outdoor adventure ‘SOS: Sex on Snow’, in which outdoor sex figures prominently, shouldn’t be seen as a perverted movie catering to an outdoor sex fetish. Take it as a cosmic equalizer to make up for all the ‘normal’ indoor sex we humans seem so fond of.

Deceptively simple, but sexually profound, the story is about a team of ‘masterful’ Alpine rescuers who save sexy snow bunnies and shag them. That’s about it. You get sex on a ski lift with Priva, DPs with Enrika, threesomes, gapings, the whole works.

My contacts in the production department gave me the technical details. It was shot on HD and edited using an HD editing bay, for crystal clear detail. You can almost smell the female and the fresh mountain air!

It’s happened to many a man. You’re sitting in a packed multiplex with your overpriced popcorn, taking in the new James Bond movie and thinking, “this would have been so much better if there were, like, a couple DPs or group sex in it or something”. But sadly, beyond the suggestive silhouettes in the main titles, the sex is basically just implied in a James Bond movie. Let’s face it, sex is still somewhat taboo, even in this post-Paris Hilton age. Hollywood is still a long way from tapping into this huge market.

This is why the links I just got are interesting. There are a few trailers on You Tube that might be suggesting Private is going mainstream with October’s forthcoming release, ‘The Mystery of the Sexy Diamonds’. Instead of James Bond we’re introduced to Jason Colt, and everything looks, well, harder - and that can’t be bad. Here’s one of the trailers:

I just got through watching backstage footage for Evil Geishas Hotel which is coming out in July. It looks incredible. The lighting, the camera work, the mise-en-scène … and the girls couldn’t be better (Lady Mai, Suzie Diamond, Claudia Rossi, Natalia Zeta).

I’d almost say this is ‘artistic’. No, I will say it. Pornography and art don’t get uttered (or moaned) in the same breath very often, but with Evil Geishas you can. The production department told me it was shot with cinema optics to give it the depth of field and feel of real film.

I also found out it was shot in an abandoned hospital near Barcelona, where movies like The Machinist were shot. The location is downright creepy looking. But, then again, I have a thing for beautiful decrepitude, especially if Suzie Diamond and friends are there to heat things up. Here’s a link to a webpage about the hospital (in Spanish only, sorry). Apparently, many people think the hospital is haunted in real life.
